TYM Passes Domestic Comprehensive Self-Driving Test

  • The TYM tractor 'T130' has proven its Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities (equivalent to Level 3 by the Rural Development Administration) in official government certification tests
  • Tractors being capable of autonomously generating and following paths, turning, and controlling implements to perform agricultural tasks
  • TYMICT’s autonomous driving module equipment ensures precision that maintains a stopping error within 2cm and a working error within 4-5cm

TYM is concentrating its technological development capabilities with the goal of leading the autonomous agricultural machinery market, proving its advanced autonomous driving system technology.

TYM (CEO Kim Hiyong, Kim Dohoon / 002900), a specialist agricultural machinery company, announced on the 17th that its tractor 'T130' has passed the comprehensive domestic test for autonomous driving systems, specifically the 'turning and implement control' performance test, organized by the Korea Agriculture Technology Promotion Agency. Consequently, TYM has now demonstrated equivalent technological prowess in the tractor sector, following last year's industry-first unveiling of the government-certified Level 2 autonomous driving transplanter 'RGO-690' (equivalent to Level 3 by the Rural Development Administration).

In Korea, the stages of autonomous driving for agricultural machinery are classified according to the new standards set by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards under government leadership in 2022, as follows:
△ Level 1: Driver-assisted automatic farming operations,
△ Level 2: Partial automatic farming operations,
△ Level 3: Conditional automatic farming operations,
△ Level 4: Automatic farming operations,
△ Level 5: Autonomous farming operations.

TYM has equipped the T130 with an autonomous driving module that encapsulates the autonomous driving technology developed by its subsidiary, TYMICT, which was established to concentrate on advanced agricultural machinery development. TYMICT not only possesses autonomous driving systems but also holds various technological capabilities for precision agriculture, including telematics, big data, and AI, which it continues to enhance through research and development.

The T130 has proven its technology at Level 2 autonomous driving as per the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards, which is a stage where agricultural machinery can autonomously generate paths, follow and turn, and control implements to perform partial automatic farming operations. This level of technology meets the Level 3 autonomous driving standards according to the previous criteria set by the Rural Development Administration.

The T130 has passed the test with exceptional precision, applying RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) autonomous driving system technology, achieving a stopping error of 2cm and a working error within 4-5cm. The comprehensive domestic test standards for autonomous driving systems set by the Korea Agricultural Technology Promotion Agency do not include the top 5% of accumulated error data and are within ±7cm. (Related standard: ISO 12188-2)

TYM is diligently working towards the goal of launching a utility tractor equipped with Level 2 autonomous driving technology within the second half of this year. The plan is to subsequently extend the autonomous driving system to various tractor models and other agricultural machinery, leveraging the technological expertise of its subsidiary TYMICT to actively pursue the development of digital agriculture technologies that will serve as a driving force for future growth.

A representative from TYM stated, "We are exploring ways to diversify precision agriculture businesses while gradually enhancing the level of autonomous driving technology," and added, "We will continue to actively engage in developing advanced digital agriculture technologies and platforms that contribute to increasing farm productivity and revenue, securing future growth engines."

TYM has the distinction of being the first in the agricultural machinery industry to pass the comprehensive domestic performance test for the autonomous driving systems of the tractor 'T130' and the rice transplanter 'RGO-690'. TYM has independently developed core technologies for its autonomous driving system, including the Inertial Navigation System (INS), path generation, and path following software, as well as the autonomous driving controller and console hardware. Furthermore, TYM has secured the technology for an autonomous driving system using the RTK GNSS method.
